Dedicated Power Systems for Pools and Hot Tubs
Pool and Hot Tub Power Systems in Monmouth, Middlesex, and Ocean Counties
A swimming pool and hot tub offer an oasis for fun and relaxation. To ensure safety and enjoyment, pools and hot tubs require a separate electrical system. Whether designing an outdoor space for a pool installation or updating an existing power and lighting system, you need to consider the power needs of these projects. The team of electricians at Corbin Electrical Services, Inc. has the experience necessary to navigate the complexities of pool power systems. Homeowners throughout Monmouth, Middlesex, and Ocean Counties in New Jersey trust us for pool electrical services and more.
Our Pool and Hot Tub Electrical Services
The power requirements for a swimming pool or hot tub differ significantly from those of a house or building. Pool installation requires understanding safety concerns and the types of electrical components best suited for these structures. Unlike electrical components inside the home, these systems are more exposed to outdoor elements.
Another reason a separate power system is necessary is that the demands of a pool or hot tub could overwhelm the existing electrical supply for your home. What you need is a dedicated power system that adheres to code requirements.
Relying on the knowledge and skill of experienced electricians, like those at Corbin Electrical Services, Inc., is your best option. We use proper design and installation techniques to ensure your power system is up to the task and safe from common issues like blown fuses. Your properly designed and implemented pool and hot tub power solution could include:
- Motors and heating components for cleanliness and comfort
- Automated/remote-controlled lighting systems
- Efficient, state-of-the-art LED lighting to improve safety
We design dedicated power systems for pools and hot tubs you use all year round or only in the summer. We also ensure power systems integrate seamlessly with your existing landscape electrical system and outdoor décor.
Understanding Pool and Hot Tub Electrical Code Requirements
Another reason to choose Corbin Electrical Services, Inc. – we understand pool wiring codes to ensure your installation meets standards. Each locality has different provisions in its electrical codes, and a licensed electrician will be familiar with these requirements. Common guidelines come from the National Electrical Code (NEC), which most cities follow. Major requirements include:
- Underground wiring: Underground wiring can be no closer than five feet away from any sidewall. Some exceptions apply depending on space limitations and system type.
- Overhead electrical lines: Utility power lines must be 22.5 feet or higher above the pool or hot tub's water level or the base of a diving platform. Communications cables must be 10 feet or higher above the water level/diving platform.
- GFCI protection: Code guidelines require ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) protection for motors/controls, outlet receptacles, underwater pool lights, and light fixtures within a certain proximity of the pool.
- Electrical outlet receptacles: Receptacles for pumps and motors must be six to 10 feet away from pool walls and GFCI-protected and locked. Outlets for general use can be no closer than six feet away from the pool, provided they are GFCI-protected. Non-GFCI-protected outlet receptacles must be 20 feet away or farther. For in-ground pools, at least one GFCI-protected outlet must be between six and 20 feet from the pool’s edge.
- Maintenance disconnect: Maintenance disconnects shut off power to various components. They must be installed within visible range of the pool or hot tub but not closer than five feet. This is to prevent accidental shut-offs while still in the pool.
